Description
Nuphar lutea is not comparable with true waterlilies. However it can be used where water is too deep, or in moving water, where true waterlilies would fail.
Plants supplied have large rhizomes – not recommended for small garden ponds.
Water depth: 45-150cm (1.5-5ft), measured from the growing point of the plant, can spread into much deeper water over time.
Spread: Nuphar lutea should have an ultimate spread of 1-2m (3-6ft) once established.
Flowering time: June to August.
Planting time: Plant rhizomes should be potted during the growing season only, in the spring and summer. For this species we would recommend planting the rhizome into a 10L fine mesh basket.
Aspect: Position in full sun, ideally with a minimum of 6 hours of sunshine each day.
Hardiness: Fully hardy.
We only sell healthy rhizomes with a productive crown. These should flower the same year as planting when following our instructions on caring for your water plants. Before posting your plant we wash off any soil and weeds attached to the rhizome, ensure there is no damage to emerging buds and leaves, and trim off any old growth.
You can see this plant on display at Bennetts Water Gardens.
